Heraeus supports international exchange of knowledge

On the 21st and 22nd November 2008, renowned experts from research and clinics met for the 2nd International Arthroplasty Symposium in Potsdam. Under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. med. Heino Kienapfel (D), a total of 32 speakers from 13 countries discussed the topic of "The infected implant".
Differentiation between septic and aseptic prosthesis loosening is one of the great challenges in revision arthroplasty. Therefore the topics of the formation of biofilm, microbiology, diagnostics and finally also the therapy of infected implants were the main points of the symposium.

201 Participants from 24 countries for international knowledge transfer

The main subjects of discussion were supplemented by interactive cross-fire discussions about one-stage vs. two-stage revisions and cemented vs. uncemented revision. A podium discussion with international members on the subject of revision management in Europe rounded off the programme and provided a stimulating exchange of ideas.
Already in 2006, experts discussed the local use of antibiotics in arthroplasty within the International Arthroplasty Symposium in Maastricht under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. med. Geert H.I.M. Walenkamp.
