Although the durability of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with current techniques and implants is well established, failure still occurs as a result of e.g. instability, component loosening or malposition, periprostethetic fracture, polyethylene wear and osteolysis. A main factor to improve the likelihood for success is the correct preoperative evaluation, in order to identify the etiology of failure. Revision surgery requires skill and meticulous technique. This course describes the different clinical steps involved in revision arthroplasty of the knee after exclusion of an periprosthetic infection
The course consists of 52 Steps, that cover the following topics:
- The painful TKA
- Diagnostics and evaluation of failure mechanisms after total knee arthroplasty
- Indications for and performance of a revision in TKA
- Removal of an prosthetic fitting
- Principles of treatment (spacer management, bone defects, soft-tissue coverage)
